One Reason You Get Fatter as You Get Older

One of the reasons people get fatter or gain the unwelcomed weight as they get older is because of something Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen pointed out in their book, “You on a Diet,” is because of leptin receptors.

According to the afore mentioned doctors, the older you get, the fewer leptin receptors in the part of your brain called the hypothalamus.

What this means is that you have fewer satiety signals.

Satiety signals, in general, are signals generated by the GI tract (gastrointestinal) during food consumption that interacts with the central nervous system to create the sensation of being full and satiety.

As you get older, you have fewer of these receptors, which makes it easier for you to gain weight. This is how young Arnold, turned into … well former Governor Arnold.

It is one of the reasons why some of our elders put on a few pounds. One of the simpler ways to combat this is to eat set meals on a schedule. If a meal didn’t quite fill you up, just know another one is around the corner in 3 hours or so.
